SUNDAY 31-5-15

A bit cloudy today, never mind it's still lovely weather. I had chores to do, firstly we've had a mechanical malfunction with the loo and so that had to be sorted as a matter of urgency, followed by a repair to the little cupboard holding the kitchen waste bag. For some reason it has been forced closed and the screws on the bottom hinge have been ripped out of the MDF. It took a while to figure out how to take the adjustable hinge apart, once that was done, fingers crossed I think epoxy resin and hardener  have cured the problem. I then made a lemon cheesecake, though doing it in such a confined space as this leaves me wondering if it's really worth the hassle.

By then it was lunchtime, after which we made for the pebble beach for a sit around in the sun on our large beach mat, and no, it didn't make the experience any more comfortable. I was surprised how few tattoos there were on display. I only saw a couple on a British girl who was lying fairly near us. The design she had on her lower back, well what can I say? If she was a roll of wallpaper I’d hang her in the kitchen.

Today we have thrown out the remaining half of a loaf of sliced bread, which we bought in a Lidl store in Greece. It was a standby in case we were unable to get fresh crusty sticks or loaves. Unbelievably, it was still moist with no sign of mould at all. I've no idea what they put in it, embalming fluid probably.

Tomorrow we plan to spend our first of two days in Monaco, going there by train, so fingers crossed.

SATURDAY 30-5-15

The road outside was very busy and very, very, noisy from quite early on this morning (well before getting up time anyway). It turns out there's some sort of motoring event taking place today and tomorrow and it passes right by here. Lots of rally-type cars with driver and navigator wearing helmets, then sitting at the traffic lights like everybody else. I must assume they're on their way to somewhere faster, like a motor racing circuit.

After getting ready we had planned to take a walk along the seafront until we reached the mouth of the local river and then take a 2km walk along its bank to the inland village of Villeneuve-Loubet (I assume our campground is in its coastal district). The pictures of it look nice and there is a castle of some sorts up there. As it turned out the path proved trickier than we had anticipated, nothing like it showed in the promotional pictures, and so we decided to give up on it and return to the beach. When we reached the seafront again we looked back, saw the castle and calculated it was considerably further than 2 kilometres away.

One good thing was that we discovered the 'Hippodrome' (racecourse). There is a meeting due there next Sunday but we will have left by then, though we are certain we will return to this area again, next time with our folding bikes onboard.

After returning home we grabbed our shopping bags and set off for the huge 'Casino' supermarket for some bits and pieces, including some beef steaks for a barbecue.

The campsite has been very busy today and it turns out Tuesday is an Italian National Holiday, in fact the campground has now opened up its annex across the road, and that is almost full already.

We listened to the rally cars roaring and back-firing as they came back past the campground as we sat outside enjoying the barbecue.
