SATURDAY 03-09-22

We were up in good time so that we could be in the supermarket at 08:30 when they opened, this being a Saturday with the potential for it to be very busy. Just as we were locking the vehicle to go in it started to rain. I said to The Chef 'Well the rain they forecast has finally arrived', to which she replied 'Didn't you hear it last night?' My honest reply was that I hadn't. It seems it rained really heavily with the resultant loud noise on the vehicles roof, yet I had slept right through it. Oh well, at least one of us got a good night's sleep.

As for the shopping, we didn't need as much as I had anticipated, yet still left their car park loaded to the gunnels. I told The Chef that we needed to eat and drink our way through much of what we had onboard because I didn't want to travel this heavy again during the trip.

Much of the journey was in heavy rain, and I was mindful that we were probably overweight, which was very naughty, which results in the front end being a bit light on steering and power transfer to the road surface despite the air assisted suspension we had fitted. I spent the whole journey mindful of this which was quite stressful as I did my best to keep us on the straight and narrow.

We spent the first part of the journey on a 'B' road as we headed from Besancon to the Swiss border. It was demanding driving in such wet conditions but very picturesque. At the border we were met by just one very uninterested border guard who was more interested on what was on her Smartphone screen than what was passing through. So that was a result, no hassle and no need for formalities.

We did have to buy a vignette before we left the UK. This cost us about forty-one Euros including postage (and profit) allowing us to use Swiss motorways for the whole of 2022, which if you needed to use them throughout the year would represent good value for money, however if you just need, like us, to use them once to reach your destination and then once more to leave the country it's a bit expensive, but then again, everything in Switzerland is expensive.

Lunch was spent in a motorway parking area where we killed a couple of hours. The satnav was telling us we had about another hour of driving to do, taking us via Bern and Interlaken, before we reached our campsite, and so we hit the road again at 14:00  in order to arrive at the checking in time of 15:00.

In the end we weren't far out and arrived here at Camping Jungfrau www.campingjungfrau.swiss (N46.588601° E7.908219°) just before three o'clock.

We've been allocated a pitch right next to the fast-flowing river which is rather pleasant and not too far from the toilet block.

Today has been a 'working day', and we'll start getting out and about tomorrow. Unfortunately the weather has turned and there is now no possibility of a wildfire, now it's more a risk of flooding, but we'll make the best of what we've got. Gone are the days of 27°C, now it's cool and damp, but never mind.

If it pours with rain tonight I really must make the effort to hear it.
